July 6th, continued

So, Randy and Glen had to turn around at Suislaw.  They would've gone on to Umpqua, but for the logistics of arriving there with no transport vehicle.  Logistics have been a bug-a-boo for this trip.  Neither of us imagined so much driving back and forth, and it's eating up our time.  But, we're figuring out some ways to streamline as we go alone.

Anyway, after 14 hours on the water in fairly rough seas (7 to 9 ft swells with wind chop), they limped back into Newport.  In addition to the rough water, Glen was keeping an eye on a trouble spot in the engine room.  The boat can handle the rough water, easily and happily, but, well, none of us is 19 years old anymore.  Needless to say, we were all exhausted, them from the doing, Naomi from the stress of waiting and watching.

We've realized that the whole trip down to Brookings is not do-able at this point.  It's hard to give up that lower part of the trip, but we've basically tried to take a three month plan and sandwich it into 5 weeks.  We're keeping a revised and flexible itinerary.  Stay tuned.
